CHOPPER
March 12, 2005 - May 15, 2006

Chopper was my first boxer.  My original thought when wanting a purebred dog was to get a Bulldog.  But I quickly realized that I needed a more active breed.  I fell into boxers by working as a Grooming Technician at a local Grooming and Boarding facility.  I loved the breed!  So exhuberant and happy!  I had to have one!  I found a woman a couple hours away from me with just 2 left out of the litter.  It was their 8 week birthday.  I went to meet the woman and couldn't resist.  I brought Chopper home!  Little did I know he was very sick!  It took him a couple days to show the signs, but he had Parvo.  After taking him to the emergency clinic and being told there was no hope for him, I called his breeder.  She told me that she was going to do everything she could to save his life.  If he made it through the night, there was a lot of hope and to bring him to her vet the following morning.  He made it through the night!  I drove him to her vet where he was put on IV's of fluids and medications.  After 5 days of hospitilization, he pulled through!  He was so lively and ready to go!  He was going to be okay.

Chopper and I began our relationship strong.  We were always together and always doing something.  He kept me laughing that's for sure.  He sure knew how to make my day.  Chopper obtained his Canine Good Citizen title at just under 9 months old!  Shortly after he also passed his Therapy Dogs International title.  Before I could get his paperwork sent in, he was taken from me.  I thought that I could keep him and everything would be okay, but he was in too much pain.  When the car hit him, it broke his back and punctured his lungs.  It would have been selfish of me to keep him alive.  He would not have been happy.  He is in a place now where he can be happy and live without pain and worry-free.  I know that he watches me.  I know that he takes care of me.  He is my guardian angel, watching over me from above.

I miss him so much.  I think about him daily.  There isn't a moment that goes by that I wonder if he didn't have something to do with what I have today.  I cannot thank him enough for every joy he gave me.  Without having had him in my life, I may not ever truly appreciate the boxer breed.  He was definetely the typical boxer.
